The establishment of the Integrated Border Post in Batugade, Salele (Suai) and Sakato (Oecussi) represents a significant improvement in border control and surveillance of the passage of persons and goods, while acting as a facilitator of trade and social relations between Timor-Leste and Indonesia and a driver for cooperation and collaboration between departments border of both countries and, consequently, narrowing links between them.
The Integrated Border Posts will perform at a high level of the Departments of Revenue and Customs or by the operating model applied, either by the technology employed, including the X-Ray equipment and entry system and surveillance.
This project is an important accomplishment of this government. It clearly demonstrates strategic step to achieve multiple objectives including harmonization of border services among the national agencies such as Customs, Immigration, Border Patrol Unit, Quarantine, Heal Unit, and others and better prevention and combat of crimes in border area, in particular the so-called global and transnational crimes.
Batugade border post also includes dock (for boats) whose function is to ensure the maritime control and curb the illegal trade of goods between Indonesia and Timor-Leste. It is important to mention that Batugade Customs collects the second highest amount of revenue for the State after Customs at Dili Port.
